This workshop is for any breed of dog & age - it is meant to help build confidence within your dog through physical body awareness, brain games-mental activity, skills application and teaching some impulse control skills. All dogs should take this workshop even if they aren't shy or fearful because we want to create a dog that is a thinker, who thinks through processes and problem solves - they will less likely be reactive dogs later in life.

There are three areas of clarity in your communication to the dog: mental, physical and emotional. We will be working on each piece.
There are several LAYERS of confidence, all must be present in order for a relationship to thrive and survive. Fearful dogs have many layers and it makes sense that confidence should also.
LAYER ONE. There must be self-confidence of the individual. It can't be one-sided. It is a dance with two partners.
LAYER TWO. There must be confidence in the partner. How do you know your dog doesn't have confidence in you?
1. Dog becomes obstinate, willful appearing to deliberately be thwarting our goals.
2. The dog loses confidence in the relationship and
3. Loses confidence in himself
4. The interdependence of the dog and handler within the relationship means also that a lack of confidence in one can decidedly affect the confidence of the other
With fearful dogs there may very well be little to no confidence AND THAT IS WHY YOU SHOULD TAKE THIS WORKSHOP, to build confidence in your dog, in the relationship, in the team.
LAYER THREE. The confidence of experience. A joint confidence that comes from intimate knowledge of your own and the other's strengths and weaknesses, of what is possible between the two of you.
THE FEARFUL dog has vastly different experiences than we'd like them to have and it will take time to educate, to teach and to help them to be confident and that will take time.
TRUST YOUR DOG should be the motto of every dog trainer and dog owner. Unfortunately the confidence in your ability to read the dog is sometimes shaky. When that happens confusion arises and it shakes the dog's confidence in you. You have to have confidence in yourself, in order to build confidence in your dog. There will ups and downs. Have confidence in what you are learning and what you know, what your dog knows and what you as a team know.
